Winter is Coming…

This is an important time of year for beekeepers, in fact it can be thought of as the beginning of the beekeeping year! Setting up your colonies properly for winter will give them the best possible chance of surviving the cold months and then exploding into action next spring.

So come along to the club night on 20 Sep where we will give some advice on winter preparation and varroa treatment. Afterwards you can chat to other members over a cup of tea and find out how they do it (I can guarantee there will be differences of opinion!)

Asian Hornets

The threat of invasion by Asian Hornets is growing all the time. There have been an unprecedented number of sightings and nests found this year and without vigilance and prompt action the situation will only get worse… much worse. If you are in any doubt about the impact that Asian Hornets can have, watch Richard Noel trying to cope in Brittany last autumn…

So it is time to stand up and be counted! Educate yourself and anyone else who will listen (this is not just a beekeeping problem!) and be vigilant, set monitoring traps and perhaps get involved with the Asian Hornet Action Team (AHAT)…

See you soon
