July 2023

I hope your season is progressing well and that you have managed to achieve your goals, whatever they are. Many beekeepers like to collect honey but there is so much more you can achieve. For instance, you can collect propolis for use in making cosmetics,  or wax for candles, beeswax wraps and many other uses.

You might also like to try your own queen rearing. It is not as difficult as you might think and there is nothing as satisfying as seeing a queen that you have reared yourself forming a successful new colony. It enables you to make nucs to support your main colonies or replace them after winter losses. You can also sell queens (or give them away!) to others in need. You might even decide to sell nucs - quite a lucrative business!

Many choose to further their beekeeping expertise by studying the BBKA modules. It is not for everyone but if you would like to get involved just take a look at the BBKA website.

Try something new and improve your knowledge and enjoyment.
